You've not missed anything - actually that's an oversight/not
implemented yet. The GUI does not have anywhere you can select to view
private entries.
Probably fairly easy to add, so mostly an oversight as I don't use
them.
Maybe over Christmas I could add this if I do any work on jppy.

You're probably using jpilot 1.6.2.8, which natively supports
Contacts-PAdd (since 1.6.0). This means you don't need to select "Sync
jppy". Keep "Sync address", but check that in the jpilot
Preferences->Address you've selected "Use Contacts database"
